AROMATHERAPY

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to help promote and maintain health and vitality. The essences are extracted from aromatic flowers, plants, fruits and trees.

What are the properties of essential oils?

Almost all essential oils are antiseptic and antibacterial, others being antiviral and antifungal-some oils stimulate and regenerate while others calm and sedate the mind and body.

One essential oil can have many properties, e.g. Lavender alone has 70 properties.

As the oils are so concentrated, only a few drops are needed and they are mixed with a suitable carrier oil e.g.Sweet Almond Oil or a white vegetable based lotion.

Great care should be taken when using essential oils, so a visit to a qualified aromatherapist is recommended where you will receive the most beneficial treatment for you.

Full Body (including face) and consultation (1hr 30mins) £30.00

Neck, back and shoulders (45mins) £15.00

SWEDISH MASSAGE

The Original Spa Treatment

The word massage is derived from the Arabic 'mass' or 'mash', meaning to press softly.

Swedish massage was developed by a Professor Ling of Sweden in the early 19th century. It was based on a scientific system of massage and exercise based on Physiology

What are the effects of massage?

Although massage can be performed with electrical equipment, the skilful use of the hands will always produce a more relaxing massage and allow the therapist to feel the condition of the underlying tissue, and to adapt her technique accordingly.

The manipulations are chosen for the effects they produce, and these may be superficial or deep, stimulating or soothing.

EFFECTS:

ON THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

  • The pressure of massage assists the flow in the veins and lymphatics and is directed towards the heart and the nearest superficial lymph nodes.
  • Reflex action on the nerves causes dilation of the arterioles and creates a hyperaemia and feeling of warmth in the area.
  • By improving the blood flow, the body's waste products are carried away and fresh oxygenated blood flows into the area, bringing nutrients to the tissues.

    ON THE NERVOUS SYSTEM

  • The general effect creates a feeling of relaxation by the local effect on sensory nerves, the increase in circulation and the feeling of warmth.

    ON THE MUSCLES

  • Deep movements will improve the circulation to muscle tissue and so aid the removal of waste products, fresh blood will bring nutrients back to them, this means that tired aching muscles left with a residue of waste products can be restored to their normal state and massage will help to maintain it.

    ON THE SKIN

Due to the improved circulation there will be:

  • Improvement in texture and appearance after a number of treatments.
  • A temporary feeling of warmth.
  • A cleansing effect; sweat and sebaceous ducts are emptied and sebaceous secretions are stimulated.
  • There will also be movement and stimulation causing loosening of subcutaneous tissues so that the skin moves more easily, relieving tension lines.
  • Dead cells on the surface will be rubbed off, and the oil or cream used will nourish the skin.
