STATE REGISTERED CHIROPODY SURGERY

Richard Barlow B.Sc.(Hons) M.Ch.S. S.R.Ch State Registerd Chiropodist/Podiatrist

Is your chiropodist state registered? When you visit a doctor or dentist, you do so with confidence in the training which they have received. This is not the case where chiropody is concerned. Anyone can set up in private practice without any training.

There are also those who have undertaken formal training which is not recognised for the purpose of State Registration.

State registered chiropodists use the letters SRCh after their names. Always ensure that the chiropodist you visit is described as State Registered or SRCh.

What can state registered chiropodists treat?

They can provide a wide range of treatment such as biomechanics, sport medicine, bone surgery and treatments under locally injected anaesthesia. Your practitioner will be able to advise you what treatments are available, including:

  • removal of callous and corns
  • nail management
  • ingrowing toenail removal
  • verrucae and warts
  • biomechanical assessment
  • sports medicine
  •
    ROUTINE TREATMENT

This is the palliative treatment of the corns, callous and sore nails.

Regular treatment will help alleviate the pain of such lesions. Further treatment may be recommended during the appointment

    Initial Treatment - £20.00

    Subsequent Treatments - £17.00

    SURGICAL PROCEDURES

    Ingrowing Toenails

These can be very painful and if not treated quickly will become infected.

Such nails can be removed either totally or partially under local anaesthetic. The nail root is then treated with a chemical which prevents the nail regrowing. This procedure is 95% successful.

Nail surgery from £160 including dressings and follow up visit (if required).

    Verrucae

Verrucae are caused by the wart virus and can be highly contagious. They may be spread to other areas of the foot and may be transmitted to the hand and face. There are several ways of treating verracue. Cryotherapy involves the lesion being frozen which eventually destroys the virus. Acid treatment involves burning the skin which has been infected by the virus

Verrucae treatment: £16.00 Course of six treatments: £60.00

    SILOPADS

  • Silopad Digital Protectors
  • Silopad Gel Straps
  • Silopad Metatarsal Protectors

These pads have been proved to be successful with long-standing corns and hard skin and should be considered before any other sort of padding. All pads are priced at least 25% less than other major footcare specialists.

A comprehensive range of foot care products is available including CCS Foot Care Cream and Spray.

    BIOMECHANICAL ASSESSMENT

"When your feet hurt you hurt all over"

How many times have you heard this saying?

If you have flat arches it will affect the way you walk. In turn transmits excessive stresses to other parts of the body such as back and neck.

These problems can be helped by orthotics which are insoles especially made for your feet and your feet alone. They correct the way you walk and so relieve these symptoms. Insoles range from simple devices to support the arch, to plastic custom made orthotics which correct the way you walk. All insoles are designed to fit your foot alone, ensuring optimum control and comfort.

    Insoles available from £35

    This examination is primarily aimed
at patients who play a lot of sports
and those who have suffered chronic pain
in the heels, shins and back.
