What is Acupuncture?

An ancient Chinese system of healing whereby hair-fine needles are placed into key areas of the body.

How does Acupuncture work?

On 3 main levels: Helps release the body's own natural painkillers and anti-inflammatory substances: promotes increased blood-flow therby aiding the elimination of toxins. It also balances the body's own energy giving a"kick start" to the body's healing mechanism which then leads to an improved immune system and feeling of well-being.

Do the needles hurt?

Some patients experience only mild discomfort: the usual sensation is tingling, heaviness or warmth where the needle is placed. This quickly disappears during treatment.

What complaints can Acupuncture treat?

Stress, tension, poor posture, lack of excercise and poor eating habits all contribute to a general feeling of ill health. These can display symptoms such as muscular pain, arthritis, migraine, digestive and respiritory problems, neck, shoulder and back pain etc...along with many other disorders, chronic or otherwise.

Acupuncture works to regenerate the body and helps to fight illness and discomfort, moving towards an improved lifestyle.

What is Acupressure?

As with Acupuncture, it works on the body's sensitive "Acupoints", allowing energy to be conducted and balanced throughout the body. Gentle, but firm pressure is given to these points, and although not as effective as Acupuncture, it is ideal for children and patients who are not able to overcome a fear of needles.

What is Tuina Massage?

Tuina (Tweena) or Chinese massage has also been used for centuries. Translated as "Push and Rub" massage, it concentrates on the potent "Acupoints" on the back of the patient to correct any imbalances relating to the internal organs. It also helps to correct the body's energy flow and helps to relieve stressed andf aching muscles. Used with a variety of Chinese oils, Tuina massage leaves you feeling relaxed yet invigorated, re-establishing the link between mind and body. It can be given as a separate treatment or in conjunction with the Acupuncture.
